Hana is the first of two children born to two wealthy Kilian scholars, who made sure from the outset that their daughter had nothing but the best education money could buy. She started studying magic as soon as she could read, and when she was old enough her parents sent her to a prestigious magic school. She was easily the best student there, excelling in all forms of elemental and light magic with a strong preference to light.

Unfortunately, her success came at a price. In contrast to the prodigy who is forced to meet expectations by pushy parents, Hana was constantly forcing herself to meet mere hopes. They didn't mind that she chose light magic, but Hana always worried they secretly thought less of her for it. The slightest criticisms from her teachers would drive her into a frenzy of sleep-deprived studying. She became so obsessed with making everyone happy she developed a martyr complex, as her brother called it. She was sure she was destined to live her whole life driving herself crazy.

Then one day, when she was fourteen years old, she met a girl who changed her life forever. Her name was Nansi, and Hana hit it off with her instantly. Nansi was bright, cheerful, and Hana couldn't help but forget her problems when she was around. Nansi was a good influence on her, even her parents noticed she was a lot happier than she'd been in a long time. But soon it became clear that Hana and Nansi's feelings for each other were deeper than friendship, and before they knew it they were confessing their love for each other. When the relationship turned sexual, there was no going back.

Hana knew this was bad. Kilia didn't exactly frown upon homosexuality, but she knew her parents were hoping she'd marry a nice man someday. And of course, Hana took that hope as an expectation and panicked. She'd never been interested in boys before, and now that she was in love with Nansi it was all too clear she never would be. But how would she explain to her parents that she hadn't married because she loved another woman?

Hana is a serious, polite and studious girl who values hard work and learning. She puts her utmost effort into everything she does, be it studies or magic or her relationships with other people. However, she also suffers from self-esteem issues and worries that even when she is doing her best, she's still doing something wrong.

In addition to being very serious, she's also a neat freak. Her motto is "a place for everything and everything in its place"; her bedroom is so meticulously organized she can tell if the slightest thing is out of place, and it drives her crazy when anything is. She loathes getting dirty, and hates all things slimy, creepy and crawly with a burning passion.

She suffers from a severe martyr complex. She thinks suffering for other people's happiness makes her a good person, which sounds good in theory. Unfortunately, it's a flaw rather than a virtue, and despite being called on it several times, she finds it nearly impossible to change that part of herself.

Her relationship with Nansi is very intense, they're deeply and love and would go to the ends of the continent for each other. And this scares Hana; she doesn't want to disappoint her parents by not marrying, but she'd rather jump off a cliff than give up Nansi. So she obsesses about keeping it a secret, even more so than one would normally keep secrets in Kilia, so certain of her parents' reaction that she's never even considered she might be dead wrong.

Hana has short, wavy brown hair cut in a bob to her shoulders and grayish-blue eyes. She's fairly small for her age, and dresses very conservatively. Despite her worn-out, uptight personality, she smiles a lot, and people have described her smile as soothing.
